PE Foam "U 20-35" Protective Profile 1 m - Ultra-wide shield for stone slabs, thick countertops and XXL glasses 🛡️

"U 20-35" is the widest profile in the Boxmarket offer, designed to protect elements with a large thickness - 20 - 35 mm. It is perfect for packing stone countertops, composite slabs, thick composite glass and wooden entrance doors. A 1,000 mm section weighs only ≈ 12 g, which does not increase freight costs. Closed-cell PE foam acts like a dense network of micro-air cushions, absorbing shocks and eliminating edge chipping. The characteristic blue color improves the visibility of the profile in the packaging process and when receiving goods.

What is a PE foam protective profile?

A "U" shaped foam profile is created during the extrusion process of foamed polyethylene (EPE/LDPE). The "U 20-35" version has an expanded working slot, which automatically clamps onto edges with a thickness of 20 – 35 mm and provides three key functions:

  1. Damping: The dense cell structure disperses impact energy, protecting stone, glass and wood from chipping.
  2. Separation: The flexible spacer maintains a constant gap between elements, eliminating friction scratches during transport.
  3. Self-grip: The wide arms encompass the edge along its entire length - without tape or glue.

Thanks to shape memory, the profile returns to its nominal dimensions after each compression, allowing for multiple rotations in a closed logistics loop.

Material - foamed polyethylene LDPE/EPE

  • Density 30 kg/m³: high elasticity, crush resistance up to 60% - no crumbling at -40 °C.
  • Hydrophobicity: closed cells do not absorb water; the profile does not swell in sea containers.
  • Chemical inertness: LDPE does not react with paints, oils or metals; it does not discolor surfaces.
  • Ecology: free from CFC/HCFC, 100% recyclable in the LDPE #4 stream.

🛡️ Profile properties - damping & self-grip

  • 🤲 Instant assembly < 1 s: the profile clamps itself onto the edge 20 – 35 mm.
  • 💧 Hydrophobicity 0 %: no capillaries – zero mold, no weight gain.
  • 🌡️ Temperature −40 °C … +90 °C: doesn't crumble or soften.
  • 🔄 > 10 re-use cycles: fatigue tests of 50% compression without permanent deformation.
  • 🛠️ Easy trimming: a knife or foam guillotine is enough to achieve any length.

🚚 Applications in packaging and logistics

  • Stone countertops 30 mm: countertop-to-countertop separation, elimination of laminate and granite chips.
  • Wooden / aluminum doors 35 mm: protection of door edges and frames.
  • Laminated glass panels 28 mm: the profile dampens micro vibrations and reduces corner cracks.
  • Quartz agglomerates 20 mm: safe distancing of slabs, preventing chips.
  • Steel structures / HPL: protection of powder-coated panels in project logistics.

In 3PL centers, the profile speeds up the packaging of heavy components without the tedious wrapping with bubble wrap.

🏭 Industries using the U 20-35 mm profile

  • Stonemasonry 🪨: granite slabs, marble, agglomerates 30 mm.
  • Premium furniture 🛋️: countertops and fronts 25 – 30 mm.
  • Aluminum joinery 🪟: entrance doors, facade panels.
  • Glass industry 🖼️: balustrades and XXL glasses up to 35 mm.
  • Automotive & aerospace 🚗✈️: composite coverings and cassettes.
  • Oversized e-commerce 📦: shipping of countertops and "flat-pack" panels.

⚖️ Solid board vs PE foam – key differences

The table below compares cardboard corners and foam profiles to facilitate the choice of appropriate protection:

Aspect LDPE foam profile Cardboard corner (solid board)
Material and production Foamed LDPE, continuous extrusion; petrochemical raw material. Multi-layer KRAFT paper; renewable raw material.
Protective properties Soft cushioning, dampens vibrations; no structural load capacity. Rigid arm, transfers pressures; less cushioning.
Weight and volume ≈ 12 g/piece; arms ≥ 14 mm → larger parcel sizes. ≈ 160 g/piece; wall 3 mm → minimal volume increase.
Resistance to moisture / chemicals Hydrophobic, chemically inert. Hygroscopic; PE version – waterproof.
Recycling / ecology LDPE #4 recycling; no biodegradation. Biodegradation or waste paper; low carbon footprint.
Typical applications Stone, glass, composites, premium furniture. Bags, boxes, wood-based boards.
Palletizing / stacking Does not carry weight – only cushioning. Transfers loads; allows stacking.

💰 Logistic and economic benefits

  • 💸 Price < 1.90 PLN/pc. when buying a pallet (100 pcs./carton) – ROI after one avoided stone countertop complaint.
  • ⚖️ Marginal weight: < 0.025% of the weight of a typical 50 kg countertop.
  • ⏱️ You assemble "click & slide" – you save ≈ 25% of time vs. taping cardboard.
  • 🔄 > 10 cycles of re-use in a closed return cycle.
  • 📉 Complaints −45% (stone manufacturers' data, Q2 2025).

🛠️ Custom product configurators – choose the filling for your process

In addition to ready-made U foam profiles, you can order PE foam sheets and cardboard inserts to build a complete, layered protection system:

🔹 Custom-sized PE foam sheets

In the foam sheets creator, enter the length, width and thickness (10 – 50 mm) and choose the color – you will immediately get the price. The sheets are used as:

  • 🛡️ shock-absorbing inserts between layers of goods,
  • 📐 spacers inside collective cartons,
  • ✂️ inserts cut to irregular shapes.

🔸 Custom-sized cardboard inserts

The cardboard inserts creator allows you to choose the format, number of layers and grammage. Uses:

  • 📦 layer stabilizers in packs of bottles or cans,
  • 🧩 carton separators when stacking pallets,
  • ♻️ eco-friendly fillings – 100% paper.

🚀 How to combine elements into a coherent system?

  1. Reinforce the edges of products with U profiles 20-35 mm.
  2. Separate layers with PE foam sheets, dampening shocks.
  3. Add cardboard inserts to distribute pressure evenly.
  4. Order everything in one basket – the configurators will give the price, and we will synchronize the production.

💡 Why is it worth it?

  • Instant price – quick online valuation.
  • 🎯 Zero material loss – each component made to measure.
  • 📉 Less logistics damage thanks to the tailored system.
  • 🛒 One invoice – U profiles, foam sheets and inserts together.
  • 🚚 Shortened lead time – parallel production of all elements.
